On April 21, 2020, Purdue University became the first major university to announce plans to reopen in the fall of 2020. U.S. News & World Report wrote, “Through the comprehensive Protect Purdue Plan, driving the beliefs and behaviors of a campus community of more than 55,000 people, the university has been as open, densely populated and operational as any campus even close to its size.” One to One Health collaborated closely with the university to design and operate the Protect Purdue program:
- 88% of both students and the overall campus community vaccinated against COVID-19
- Scaling up to 11,000 COVID-19 tests per week
- Operating a 1,000-bed quarantine facility
